Who we are
Our website address is: https://whyitallsucks.com. This site is an independent, non-partisan media and commentary platform.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to assist with automated spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to verify if you use it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Upon approval of your comment, your profile picture or placeholder is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
This site features a highly minimalist, text-focused layout. However, if you upload any images or media to the website via comments or forums, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Other visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images hosted publicly on the web.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are strictly for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is automatically discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we also set up several cookies to save your login credentials and your screen display configurations. Login cookies last for two days, and screen choices cookies last for one year. If you select “Remember Me”, your session will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies are immediately removed.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may occasionally include embedded content (e.g., videos, tweets, external articles). Embedded content from third-party websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the source website directly.
These external websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking scripts, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction if you have an active account and are logged into that specific third-party website.
Newsletter Subscriptions
If you sign up for our weekly newsletter digest, we collect and store your email address solely to deliver our weekly Monday article roundups. We do not sell, lease, or distribute our subscriber list to third-party advertisers. You can opt out or unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal data. If you request a password reset, your network IP address will be securely included in the automated reset email sent to you.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment text and its associated metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows the system to recognize and approve any of your follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a manual moderation queue.
For users that register an account on our website, we store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can view, edit, or delete their personal profile information at any time (with the exception of changing their primary username). Website administrators can also view and edit that data.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have explicitly provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold. This does not include any data we are legally or securely obliged to keep for administrative, operational, or legal compliance purposes.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments are routed through an automated spam detection service to ensure site security and filter out malicious content.
